Having just returned from New York this week, I saw that Roger’s and Hammerstein version of Cinderella is still playing on Broadway. Oh, how it brings back memories…anyone of “that certain age” (c. web ip . 1965) should remember Leslie Ann Warren in the leading role, singing at the cardboard hearth about “In My Own Little Corner”. And what about 1957’s West Side Story? Maria singing “I Feel Pretty” evokes a similar desire to reach beyond the norm and dream.
What constitutes “Feeling Pretty” today? Vanessa Van Edwards of the Huffington Post sites,
“First, I learned that I’m not the only one with body image on the brain — a survey of more than 45,000 Australian youths found that they ranked body image as the third biggest concern in their life.”
She then goes on to describe how she took on the issue of body image and outlines 5 points toward feeling positive about oneself. She makes some great points—interacting with friends and creating an exercise program are solid initial steps!
Web MD (http://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/guide/) states that any exercise is positive: “Running, walking, gardening – it’s all good. Regardless of what you do, regular exercise and physical activity is the path to health and well-being. Exercise burns fat, builds muscle, lowers cholesterol, eases stress and anxiety, lets us sleep restfully”.
At The Spa at Boncaldo’s, our female clients often mention how they would like to feel better about themselves, and that Massage and Facials are a large part of their plan.
